Grade 7 Beaver Pond Dioramas

 

 

Overview

This project is intended to help students understand how Canada's largest rodent changes the

ecosystem it lives in.  It is based on the following data:

  • Beavers need deep water (3m) to build a lodge and store food for the winter.
  • Beavers are intelligent and strong, using wood, rocks, mud, and small plants to dam

          a creek or stream.

 

Objectives

This project will be completed using the following materials:

  • cardboard boxes
  • paint
  • tin foil
  • clay
  • wood sticks
  • stones
  • coloured paper
  • hot glue
  • powdered sugar (for snow)
  • cotton (for clouds)
  • pine/spruce cones painted green

 

Students will cooperate and work efficiently.

 

 

Team

  • individually, or
  • groups up to 5 people

 

Timeline

  • 2 weeks maximum

 

Tasks

  • each group member will bring materials for the diorama
  • Mr. Prazak will supply paint, brushes, and hot glue guns
